A Few of Berroco's Latest Products

I found this yarn to be fascinating because the ply looks like it is braided. That in itself will add visual interest to anything you knit. They call this style, "chainette".

This specific yarn is called Flicker, which at first made me think of the photo hosting website but then I looked at the spelling and realized it is called flicker because of the pretty tinsel like element that is added to the fiber. It consists of baby alpaca, acrylic, and other fibers (???). I would really like to know what those are!

Isn't this a beautiful lace stitch pattern? This pullover is knit with Flicker yarn. It is called Maila.

The Fur Effect

Pitti Filati 2008

Thanks to Berroco KnitBits newsletter, I was able to view fantastic images of this year's Pitti Filati in Florence, Italy. How I wish I could have visited this exhibition to view these amazing designs. The theme was nature inspired: here is a short video of some amazing knitted sea creatures. Have you ever been inspired by sea life? Did you ever wonder what a knitted jelly fish actually looks like? Now you can, and you can create it too, for free! Thank you Norah Gaughan! This is spectacular and strange in the best ways.

Designer Valentina Tomirotti - Pepitosa

Pepitosa is a new Italian brand created by artist and journalist Valentina Tomirotti. Art of knots, and a varity of refined components: glass, crystal, and resins from the thousand facets and opalescences, chains, charms. She uses heterogeneous materials combined in a fanciful mix, united with sought after yarns such as cotton, hemp, tapes and wools. This is a unique production that is becoming the must have look of every woman. The idea is: surprising shine! The crystals and the glass from the thousand facets play with the light to melt together and give off twinkling effects of different colors. Her creations are original, in which the yarns are the most sophisticated scenography for an unusual show.

Green and Funky Moda Dea Shawl

I knit a shawl a while back in Moda*Dea (I think that is how it is spelled) yarn. It's a yarn you can buy at any craft store. This shawl is really sort of a shawl-ette. It has two ends that you just tie around your shoulders. It's actually pretty warm synthetic. This shawl is knit in two types of novelty yarns, which hide mistakes well. Believe me, there are alot of mistakes in this shawl..haha. Oh well, at least you can't see them very well. There are even a few holes in it, and I don't know how they got there. Acutally yes I do know how they got there. This happened because I had to rip some of the rows out, and then I didn't do something right, so a hole was born. My hair hides it when I wear it, so that makes it all better...lol. Totally garter stitch, it is a funky piece that I sadly do not wear often. It was a learning experience, in which now I know not to buy this yarn ever again, unless someone is just dying to wear it, and they want me to knit them something out of it, which would be highly unlikely. This shawl was about $50 to make, can you believe that? This is one reason I didn't want to give up on it. I tried to buy two yarns that were very similar in color, so I would knit an overall textural piece. It is pretty nonetheless and I am proud of it.
