Ausungate

What: Screening of the film Ausangate
When: May 1, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.
Where: Museum of International Folk Art
Admission: Free to NM residents, $9 out-of state

Join film director Andrea Heckman for a special screnning of Ausangate.Based on more than 20 years of anthropological research, Ausungate reveals how the Quecha weavers make textiles encoded with symbolic images that reinforce ancestral beiefs during rituals and in everday life.  Four Quecha people's stores are told against the backdrop of high Andean lakes and mountains showing a harsh existence possible only through a strong symbiotic relationship to their alpacas and llamas.  Visually cinematic, the film carries a deep message of survival and cultural continuity in an environment with elevations over 14,000 feet. By Museum admission, New Mexico residents with I.D. free on Sundays, Museum of New Mexico Foundation members and youth 16 and under always free!

Spring Fashion Show at Darla's Closet

Here's the Scoop: It's that time again, "Fashionnnnn Shooowwwwwww" themed, "Simply Smashing." Those two words "simply" and "smashing" seem to capture the essence of the talented indie designers and gifted curators with an eye for everything stylish, along with the models we are so honored to work with. So it seemed appropriate to name the show in their honor. Our Spring Runway Show is going to be something special to behold. Fundraising in Style's Fundraiser for Fourth Arts Block Designers

Do you like fashion?
Do you like the arts?
Don't you wish that you could benefit from both at the same time?
Then you will love...Fundraising in Style

What: A sample sale that benefits FAB
Where: New York Theatre Workshop, Main Stage, 79 E. 4th Street
When: Thursday February 5th, 5:30-9:00PM

Our tough economy has been hard on non-profits, young designers and the bargain shopper -- but here is a great way to join forces so everybody wins. This launch party kicks-off a new shopping concept to help New York City non-profits through fun, original discount shopping events featuring dozens of independent designers.

The scene for this launch event to benefit Fourth Arts Block is the fabulous New York Theatre Workshop. The goods include stylish clothing and accessories by almost a dozen designers that usually sell in high-end boutiques, as well as original artwork, and incredible hot chocolate from 4th Street's own Bond Street Chocolate. All guests will receive a free FAB Pass that gives discount access to shows in the East 4th Street Cultural District. Don't miss this chance to eat, drink, mingle, shop and help support NYC artists during the economic slump! For more information, visit http://www.fabnyc.org/.
Taken from the website:
"Fourth Arts Block (FAB) is leading the development of the East 4th Street Cultural District, the only cultural district in Manhattan. Toge- ther with our members, we are building a permanent home for the arts and preserving the block's unique creative environment."

Designs from the Ditu Spring 2009 Collection

"Join Fundraising in Style in their launch event for a whole new way of looking good while feeling good. These amazing independent designers will donate a portion of every purchase to FAB. Designers include Lara Kazan, Bellissima, Frida's Closet designed by Sandra Paez, Misswit designed by Deborah Goldstein, Ditu designed by Layla Abramowitz, Meiling Chen, Leo Works designed by Nicole Gagne, Judith Haas, and artist, Mauro Baiocco."
