Alternative Look - Fine Knits

Free People has some of the nicest knitwear I have seen but they're prices are beyond my current budget. Do you like these designs? The Rio Sweater Dress is made of rayon and polymide. I especially like the look of the white tank dress showing beneath it.

My Wardrobe features this long cardigan by Helmut Lang. I like how it is styled here. Care for this item is crucial, however, because it is made of wool.

To finish these looks, try some platform shoeties, monochromatic jewelry, such as black and white or any color really, as long as you keep it to one color with black and white. A small clutch with the eye catching knitted dress above will work, and a oversized handbag with the long cardigan would be fine. I would opt for a bright bag for both since these looks are mainly focusing on black, white and grey.

Dressing Dark

Find this knitted dress by Alice + Olivia at She boutique.
You can add a colorful ring, or handbag for interest.
For a more understated look, omit the ripped tights,
and put on a pair of sleek, elegant, closed toed pumps.

Every lady wants to make a fashion statement. If you must dress "goth", shop here, or try to find designs similar to these, for a less expensive price. The great thing about wearing a lot of black is the fact that you can add any color to it. I love how knitwear is so popular and designed so beautifully now. You really cannot go wrong in adding a piece, such as this, to your wardrobe.

Lace Sweater Dress by Berroco

This is a really cute dress to knit. It is from a new Berroco pattern book, #288. The dress featured here is knitted with a yarn called Blackstone Tweed. Blackstone Tweed comes in 12 beautiful colors (one of my favorites is "Patriot Blue"). It is a yarn made up of wool, mohair, and angora.

Tweed in the Twenty-First Century

Today is the first of a series of a few short articles consisting of interesting information about different fabrics. If you would like to read about a certain fabric, fiber or textile, please let me know.

When I think of tweed, one designer automatically comes to mind: Chanel. I'm sure you thought the same thing.

Note the stunning pink knitted cardigan and sweater top.

Buying tweed should be fun, and in a way enlightening due to the fact that there are so many different colors and varieties. You can find almost any type of garment in tweed, from coats, to skirts. Try to find tweed that is lined to prolong the wear of the piece.

Wearing tweed is even more fun than buying it. It adds texture and dimension to any ensemble. It is perfect for layering and warmth.

Caring for tweed is more simple than you think. First off, take care to read the label on the garment carefully. If your garment is made of wool, as tweed usually is, take extreme caution when exposing it to moisture and heat. Read more on the care of tweed on essortment.com

Tweed is sold at retail at all price ranges, so you are sure to find something that you can afford. Searching online is also very helpful, especially if you want a tweed jacket in the middle of summer.

The best of both worlds: a knitted tweed cardigan by Diane von Furstenberg. This can be worn with or without a belt.

Lust for Lace

Lace is dreamy and can be quite fresh against the skin. If you feel as if it is itchy, layer it over a gorgeous smooth fabric such as silk or satin. Lace makes you feel feminine and pretty, even during the worst conditions. Add some to your wardrobe to round out your look, or even to add a vintage flair, if you are so inclined. It can soften even the roughest, most grungy looks. Lace has been around for ages, and will continue to be in style, for all time.

Breezy Fabric Choices

Accessories from left to right: Twisted Orchid bamboo tote, Gucci bamboo pumps, Christian Louboutin linen and crocodile pumps, and Raw Bags bamboo clutch.

I love how cool linen feels but hate the way it wrinkles. Cotton is always my perfect solution. Bamboo is also another perfect choice and is great for the environment. Silk feels amazing on the skin.
